Paul Chase has immersed himself in Germany history from the middle ages up to the present day, and he has traveled widely and frequently in Germany over the past fifty years. In 1968-1969, he studied German history and literature at Heidelberg University while earning his bachelor's degree in history and German at Northland College. As a doctoral student at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he conducted research in libraries and archives in both East and West Germany. He taught courses on European and German history, the history of World War II, and the history of the Holocaust at Stony Brook and at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County, where he served as Dean for sixteen years.
